SmurfsSeason Two

The Lost City of Yore is the fourteenth episode of the second season of Smurfs, and the fortieth episode overall.

The episode is a one-shot character sketch of Nosey Smurf, whose curiosity and desire to stick his nose into other Smurfs' business nearly costs Papa Smurf his life, this when he has to rescue him, Brainy and Clumsy from twin witches, who are competing with Gargamel to find a scroll that will lead them to the Lost City Of Yore, where a scepter containing great powers is located and will allow them to rule the world.

Plot Overview

A young Smurf named Nosey has constantly poked his nose in other Smurfs' business, including reading Smurfette's diary, causing Greedy's souflee to collapse and after interfering in Papa Smurf's experiment causes it to explode. Papa Smurf reminds Nosey there is a difference between being curious and his behavior and asks him to stop. To make up for it, Nosey volunteers to get ingredients from the Great Swamp, and Brainy and Clumsy are asked to go along to supervise.

The three Smurfs later overhear two witches complain about not finding a scroll, which they hope will lead them to the Lost City Of Yore and a powerful scepter that will give them incredible powers. Nosey's curiosity gets the best of him, but he and the other Smurfs are captured by the witches, who immediately afterward find the scroll. They take everything back to their castle.

Later, Gargamel visits the castle but finding nobody home enters. He is discovered quickly by the witches and is chased away. However, as he is leaving, he overhears the witches explaining their plans to their captive Smurfs, explaining that the magic scepter was created by an evil wizard named Yore, and that its capabilities are endless. Gargamel decides he wants to find this scepter, too, hoping to find it first and then use it to destroy the Smurfs.

Later, Papa Smurf – knowing that Nosey, Brainy and Clumsy are long overdue, leads a search party and learns they are in the witches' castle. Papa Smurf and the others are nearly successful in the rescue, but Nosey's curiosity about what's in the scroll leads to a chain of events that results in them being recaptured and the witches.

Much of the rest of the episode is a race to find the scepter in the lost city, which is surrounded by a wall of flame.

The Smurfs find the scepter first inside Yore's castle, and Papa Smurf warns Nosey not to open the box containing the scepter, especially after he cautions him and the others that, according to some notes Yore had written, it contained pure evil. Papa Smurf then realizes that a pile of ashes next to the box are Yore's cremains, and that he was killed when he tried to get the scepter back into the box. Nosey gets pushy and tries to open the box, forcing Papa Smurf to try to wrestle him away ... only for the box get opened in the struggle and Papa Smurf to be knocked unconscious.

Nosey is very sorry for what happened as the other Smurfs yell at him, but there's no time for crying or blaming as Gargamel and then the two witches come into the room to capture the Smurfs then try to get the scepter. However, the two villainous sides get into a big struggle over the box, and the scepter flies out, starting a big fire. Hefty, who was part of the search party, decides to use the witches' broom to push the scepter into a moat of fire surrounding Yore's castle. Papa Smurf regains consciousness just as Yore's castle is starting to collapse. Everyone – the Smurfs, the witches, and Gargamel and Azrael – all are able to escape the castle before it collapses into the flames.

In the end, Smurfette really scolds Nosey for all the trouble that resulted. Nosey still wonders what is wrong with being curious. After Brainy notes that "curiosity killed the cat," Papa Smurf says that sometimes curiosity is a good thing ... to which Brainy rambles on (as usual) before being thrown out of the village once again.

Characters

  • Nosey Smurf: This is the only episode in which this character appears. He is basically a young, attention-seeking Smurf who wants to know everything going on, even if it is none of his business. This causes the other Smurfs to be extremely distrustful of him, as they are always upset that he is trying to pry into their business. Sometimes, the situations are harmless enough, such as trying to read Smurfette's diary or causing Greedy's souflee to collapse. Other times, his behavior puts Papa Smurf's and his fellow Smurfs' lives in extreme danger.
As shown in this episode, his relationship with the other Smurfs is much icier than was Brainy's with the other Smurfs. Incidentally, Brainy is one who has to constantly scold Nosey and remind him that his behavior is causing problems.
Unlike other Smurfs, Nosey is not seen again, which leaves his relationship with the other Smurfs to the viewers' imagination. As such, it is not know if Nosey was able to repent enough that the other Smurfs were able to become friendly with him (or at least tolerant of him), or did they shun him even when he demonstrated changes in his behavior.
