Soul Train is a syndicated variety show with a particular focus on music. The series was first hosted by Don Cornelius, who created and produced the series on WCIU-TV in Chicago. The series eventually was put into first-run syndication where it remains. In a typical episode, a musician (typically African-American) lip-syncs to a song and is interviewed by the host. Some commentators have referred to Soul Train as the "black American Bandstand."
