Allusions and References

  • Sarah Michelle Gellar: After Tim learns that he has a shot at getting published by Dark Star Comics, he prays to what the viewer assumes is God until the camera pulls back to reveal a poster of Sarah Michelle Gellar. Gellar was the star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer between 1996 and 2003.
  • The Sixth Sense: While Tim and Mike are stuck in traffic, he starts talking vaguely about how there was an accident and somebody was badly hurt. This is a reference to lines spoken by Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense, which set up the shock of seeing the mangled corpse of the victim staring through the driver's side window.
  • The Matrix: Mike's idea to get Tim's portfolio back is to indiscriminately open fire on the library with machine guns. This idea came from a scene in The Matrix where Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) lay siege to an office building where Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) is being held captive by agents of Matrix.
  • Bob Kane: Bob Kane is an American cartoonist and writer who is most famous for creating Batman with Bill Finger for DC Comics in 1939. Along with Batman, Kane and Finger created most of his supporting cast and villains including Robin and The Joker.
Damion: Who does he think he is, Bob bloody Kane?
