Spunky and Tadpole was a serialized animated adventure airing in syndication.
Spunky was a little boy who was joined on adventures and clandestine assignments by Tadpole, a thick-witted talking bear. The adventures were rather routine and the series itself has been ridiculed critically for its threadbare production values. It came about when producer Ed Janis (also the voice of Tadpole) entreated investors to buy stock with proceeds going towards production of the series. It was budgeted at a paltry $125,000. Fifteen stories, each comprised of ten episodes were screened as individual features on cartoon blocks or local kids shows. TV Cinema distributed the series at first, then sold the package to Guild Films. Through the strength of Hanna-Barbera's TV shows, Spunky and Tadpole has been pretty much long forgotten.
