Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the third show (and second animated show) featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This incarnation is far closer to its MIRAGE comics roots. It also offers its own original twists and turns, leaving new possibilities, and drawing in new and original audiences.

It all started with four pet turtles and a canister of ooze. When the turtles are bathed in the ooze, they begin to grow, to change, to mutate! Raised in the New York City sewers by Master Splinter, who teaches them how to be experts at martial arts, now the Turtles have risen from their dwellings into the city itself, inhabiting it at night, they wage war against crime and evil in its many forms, be it ruthless gangs, lowlife crooks, mutated abominations, deranged cyborgs, or even the crime syndicate The Foot, led by their armoured nemesis, The Shredder.

For the most part, the series has been aired in production order, but one episode in season three was aired out of order ("New Blood" should have aired before "The Lesson") and many episodes were aired out of order in the fourth season. Also, the fourth season included one episode that was never aired, and wasn't seen until it was released on DVD.

Some confusion over the series has come as a result of seasons five and six. Season five was originally supposed to run after season four, and it takes place that way chronologically. But instead, the sixth season was ran as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fast Forward. The fifth season initially had only shown a few episodes via Comcast On-Demand in Summer 2006 and one episode, billed 'The Lost Episode' in March 2007 before finally airing the complete season on FOX as 'The Lost Season' from February through May in 2008.

After the series ended, a telefilm, Turtles Forever, aired which featured characters from both this version and the 1987 version together.

DVD Releases

Summary

TMNT started out as volume releases featuring 3-5 episodes in chronological order. This lasted for the first 10 volumes, with the first 8 volumes containing the complete first season and 9 and 10 including about a third of the second season. The next four volumes, 11–14, included all of the remaining episodes from season 2, but in a seemingly random order, with each release having 4 or 5 episodes. Then, the volumes started being released as 3.x, which indicated the start of the third season episodes. There were seven of these releases (3.1–3.7) which each included 5 episodes, except for 3.7 which included 6, which were again in a seemingly random order. Together they included all but one episode of season three (the missing episode was released on Michelangelo's Christmas Rescue) and first 11 episodes of season four.

After Volume 3.7, they started releasing season sets. They started with Season 4, which only included the season 4 episodes not already released in volumes (except one, which was later included on the Ninja Tribunal set). Afterwards, they flip-flopped between releasing later seasons, new to DVD (season 5 as Ninja Tribunal and season 6 as Fast Forward) and earlier seasons, previously released through the volumes, in sets.

Other releases came, mainly in cheap releases including one or two episodes, with the episodes featured on these also available on volume releases.
