Plot Overview
When a strange man comes into a shop and offers money for a mysterious crystal in the shape of an egg, the shopkeeper takes it to a professor to have it evaluated. The professor is at first in awe that the crystal egg seems to serve as a window into the planet Mars, but soon becomes fearful about what it means and why someone would want it so badly.

The Show
- The episode is an adaptation of the short story by H.G. Wells of the same name. It was published in 1897, the same year Wells was serialising The War of the Worlds in Pearson's Magazine. "The Crystal Egg" is often considered to be a prequel of sorts because its descriptions of the Martians are incredibly similar to how Wells details them in The War of the Worlds.
