Talk:Doctor Who

From The TV IV

Tweaked the explanatory para in the intro: The Dr's Tardis wasn't stolen (although he did steal one in his youth) and his relationship with his people was, to put it mildly, complex (seethe canon-keeprs guide). Vaguedisclaimer 14:11, 13 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Could you clear that up Vaguedisclaimer, what is your source within the canonkeeper? I too was under the impression he had 'borrowed' it. If it's a book that contradicts this, perhaps it should not be considered canon for the purposes of an article about the television show. Not certain about this issue myself, just wanted to bring it up and find consensus, if indeed it has anything to do with the books. I thought the reason he struggled so much with it in the early days was supposed to be that it had built-in anti-theft measures. - MadEyeTed 15:04, 13 Sep 2005 (EDT)

I listed the canon guide's entry for events prior to the first episode (note that they have a colour coding system to identify where each bit comes from).
As I undertsand it the BBC considers the TV series and the online series (with Richard E Grant) as canon - not sure about the books. But the point is that nowhere in that list is there evidence that the Tardis used in the series is stolen. There is only reference to an earlier theft AND a to theft in a book (which, again doesn't seem to be 'the' Tardis). Indeed, in season 11 the Time Lords gave the Tardis an overhaul as a reward for helping them.
Also, I recall that in the Pertwee years the Dr was stranded on earth because the Time Lord disabled the Tardis. ie they did not reclaim it. I remember very clearly the moment when the Doctor got the vital component back: "They've forgiven me". It was a very powerful moment and doesn't seem to imply that the Doctor's Tardis was stolen. Under that same "canon-keeper's guide", under the entry for the Second Doctor story "The War Games" (the story where the Second Doctor is forced to regenerate into the Third Doctor and sent to Earth with a malfunctioning rematerialisation circuit:

"The Time Lords fail to prevent the Doctor's escape and he tries to pilot the ship away. He explains to Jamie and Zoe that he was bored living in an advanced society of great power who had strict laws of non-interference in the affairs of others. He had to steal the TARDIS and escape in order to see the wonders of the universe and fight evil." --Hawkman 14:28, 18 Sep 2005 (EDT)

OK, given the episode it is from, I'm happy to let it stand (but would prefer a less absolute tone, since the Doctor's claim - we never see the 'theft', as far as I know - seems to contradict much else in canon), not to mention not making a whole bunch of sense in terms of Time Lord actions. The problem is that at the time War Games was written the Time Lords had not been fully 'invented'. Much retconning (and quite a bit of outright contradiction) has gone on, it seems. Erm, what about Doctor Who and the Curse of the Fatal Death? 02:50 . . User:Ashenphoenix

Well we should probably add it to specials or something since it'snot really an official episode of the show and there's no real way to obtain a copy of it. Also don't forget to sign your posts man. --Ryvius 07:40, 18 June 2006 (EDT)

Formatting of front page

The formatting for the front page seems a bit off to me, the fact that the cast list is so long seems to throw the entire page off. I was wondering if the companions and older doctors should be moved to a details page while only the current cast be shown on the front page. -Philoetus 02:16, 25 October 2006 (EDT)

Christmas Specials?

The Christmas specials aren't really part of any season. Should we split them out and list them separately? —Naddy 14:02, 4 July 2007 (EDT)
