Talk:My Name Is Earl/Music

From The TV IV
Jump to: navigation, search

First sorry for my bad english i`m from Spain, only in order to say, in the chapter 12 second season is not schedule one song, just in the start of the chapter one voice in off ist talking about the bad thinks of the sundays in a pub and the music sound, wat`s this song, can anybody added to the list, thanks.

I find the song at last, in history-contribs-reef do mention to Dr. John "Rigth place wrong time", i dot now cause is not in the definitiv list.

Not sure why my edit was removed, but Vaughn Penn's song "Ready to Rise" was featured in Episode 4 "Faked His Own Death". It's the last song played, as Earl is walking through the gallery.

The songs from the first 10 or so episodes were verified by NBC when the show first aired. That must have been one of the replacement songs on the DVD. I'll note it as such. --The-jam 21:21, 6 May 2008 (EDT)

In Episode 1x13 on the DVD, right in the beginning when the "Gang" enters the jeweler's store, you can hear "Outta Space" from Billy Preston, but it's not mentioned in the song list and I can't seem to find "Let's work together" in this episode. Is this another case where the music on the DVD differs from the original TV airing?

Regarding personal commentary on music by The-jam

I have left a note on the talk page of The-jam requesting an explanation for posting personal commentary in this article. I have removed the edits, since this is an article that lists the songs in the show, not a place for personal opinions on the bands. - Morpheus84

It's not personal commentary it's explaining a music related joke from the show. The statement explains Randy and Earl's reactions on the show. --The-jam 21:41, 19 November 2008 (EST)
Why does a joke from the show need explaining on an article that is a collection of songs from the show? I think the objective of this article is pretty much clearly stated: "here is a list of all the songs played in the series" Is there a relation between "list of songs" and explaining jokes from the show?
Also, correct me if I am mistaken, but " None of the post crash albums had much comercial or critical success" and "widely accepted that the band was never as good as they were pre-1985 even though they were more commercially successful" does sound like commentary to me. The presence of the words "widely accepted" only reinforce my claim that this is exactly an instance of using weasel words to present your opinion .(This is apart from the fact that this entire "explanation of a joke" is not required in the first place..) Generally music lists on this site include explanations of music related references in the show (See Supernatural/Music, Life on Mars (USA)/Music). The My Name Is Earl list doesn't include many others but that's mainly because this list is pretty incomplete even with respect to songs. Plus it is not personal commentary it is explaining the reactions of the characters in the show. The joke is based entirely on those two facts you claim are commentary. Even if they are commentary since that's clearly the show's point of view that's the accepted point of view for show articles. This is not Wikipedia we don't argue over whether facts that are so universally accepted they build jokes around them are personal commentary or not. Please look at our policies page for an explanation of how we are not Wikipedia. If you revert it again I will ban you. --The-jam 19:24, 20 November 2008 (EST)
I apologize for commenting before I knew the nature of these music lists. It was a mistake on my part. Thanks for enlightening me. What I did notice after reading through the other lists was that 99% of the time, the explanations did not refer to widely accepted opinions but were simply a statement of the events that occurred with reference to the music and more lucid explanations of what the somewhat cryptic events might refer to. For example, "Sam and Dean introduce themselves as Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard, members of rock group ZZ Top" from Supernatural/Music. I think that should be the standard of these lists, with simple yet clearly objective references to the events, rather than trying to interpret the reactions of characters in the show. The objective way of referring to these particular events in My Name Is Earl , according to me, would have been "Billie gets excited because the juke box has some Van Halen with Sammy Hagar and Earl and Randy get upset at her bad taste. She then later gets excited because they also have some post plane crash Lynyrd Skynyrd." That way, only the actual events that occurred in the show are accurately represented, with no bias from the author. The part about being "widely accepted" or "absurd" is clearly your take on the event in question, and it really should not be a part of the explanation of these events. I agree there might not be a strict NPOV policy here, but I still feel adding widely accepted opinions rather than letting the readers interpret the events comes off as presenting the author's bias towards the event. Well, that's just me, anyways. It looks like me removing just the personal commentary bit and leaving the explanation will still get me banned, so I will refrain from this, but I hope you do see the reasons behind these claims.
On another note, I really commend you and the admins for maintaining the wiki and the periodic enhancements. It is definitely better than the other ad-oriented TV website "guides" around! Morpheus84 20:47, 20 November 2008 (EST)

Help! I'm dying to know what the closing song is every episode (second or third season???) when Earl, Randy, Frank, and (?) were going to rob the Indian Casino. Seems like it is the same song every show during that season - love it, but what is it and where can I buy it?

Hi everybody! Could someone please tell what song is it when cataline starts dancing in her creative writing essay? [season 3, episode 5, minute 17] hope i'll get an answer. thx
