The Amazing Race is a critically-acclaimed competitive reality show that involves, to put it simply, a race around the world. The show, hosted by Phil Keoghan, pits several teams up against each other, with the goal of being the first team to successfully complete all tasks before everyone else. Each episode of the show is made of a "leg," which is a way for the show to recognize the beginning and end points of an episode. At the end of every leg is a pitstop, and the last team to reach the pitstop is eliminated. On pre-determined legs, the pitstop is a non-elimination pitstop, meaning that the last team to arrive receives a second chance at the game.

The eleventh season of the show was an All-Stars edition, the third of this type for CBS reality shows. Previously, both Survivor and Big Brother had All-Star editions, although to mixed reactions by both the fans and the press after the novelty wore off.
