Plot Overview

This episode is the second part of the 'comedy and tragedy' episodes that marks the end of season 1. It is the thirteenth episode in the first series of 'The Batman' and (hopefully) marks a turning point in the show. You don't have to watch the previous episode (Rubberface of Comedy) to really know what's going on, since a brief overview is provided before the episode comes into play. After inhaling some gas of Joker's, Detective Ethan Bennett has since transformed into this hideous monster that people call 'Clayface'. In his rage and confusion at his sudden change, believing he is truly a monster, Ethan starts tracking down his old boss, Chief Rojas, in revenge of suspending him after his exposure to the gas, and in revenge for this 'zero tolerance' policy Rojas had laid down which in turn lead to Bennett’s suspension. Now both Batman and Bennett's old police partner, Detective Ellen Yin, need to start tracking Clayface/Bennett down and try to show him right before he hurts anyone, hoping that they are not to late.

Review by The Jokester

WARNING! SPOILERS!

Wow. That's the only word I can find for this episode: wow. After watching "The Batman", I had almost given up hope on it...until now. Yes, the character design was fine, animation moving, sounds were pretty much two thumbs up, but man how the dialogue sucked. This is now a completely different show. Even though this episode doesn't meet the same standers of Same as it Never Was - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I definitely could feel my heartstrings being pulled at in the first five minutes of the episode. I mean, come on, it's Bruce's/Batman's friend who is trying to serve law and order in the city; trying to lead a normal life.

Boy, that sure changed.

Ethan's transformation into Clayface really took me by surprise. I don't know if it did to anyone else, but it really did for me. I also like how Ethan took Joker's words to heart - "All it takes is one, rotten, day to transform a normal man into a monster!". I guess in a way it is true. Once you have a really bad day, a monster inside of you is unleashed. Fortunately, most of us can put it away. Unfortunately, some of us can't. The only thing that got me was Batman and Yin as they were piecing together that Ethan was Clayface, they did it to quickly. They couldn't be sure and had to gather more facts. But other than the quickness of the episode, I'd have to give this a 9.5/10. One thing is for certain - Rubberface of Comedy and Clayface of Tragedy defiantly was the best note to go out on
