Plot Overview

On the advent of a major merger with an electronics firm, self-made tycoon Leslie Grey hires the firm to do a background check on him to see if there's anything potentially damaging that could sink the merger. Neil travels to a small Ohio town where Grey grew up, then to Cincinnati, Joplin, Missouri, a Texas town, and finally to Mexico, along the way learning that Grey appears to have a very colorful past including a stint in the service in World War II and involvement in numerous criminal enterprises. In Mexico, he meets a man who claims to be Leslie Grey. The perplexed lawyer brings the man back to California to see if he can shed some light on just who their enigmatic client is and just what he's trying to hide, but when the second Grey winds up dead, Neil has some explaining to do to the police.
