Plot Overview

The pilot episode follows the story of Darien Fawkes, who is picked up on his third strike for breaking and entering and the attempted molestation of a senior citizen (merely a misinterpretation of his CPR performance). Faced with an elderly judge and jury and branded by the local newspapers as a "Burgling Molestor of the Elderly", Darien doesn't stand a chance, and is sentenced to life without parole. His brother Kevin manages to spring him in exchange for his cooperation in the QS9300 Invisible Man project, but after the experiment grants him the unfortunate trait of going insane if he stays invisible too long, and terrorists raid the project and kill Kevin, Darien finds himself in a tough spot.

Notes

  • Shannon Kenny does not appear in this episode, as her character The Keeper had not yet been introduced.
  • Subsequent airings split this episode into two parts.

Trivia

The Show

  • Darien's "Quicksilver Vision" is notably different in the pilot than in the rest of the series. It appears as through a Chrome filter, as opposed to the silvery black and white with trails seen in subsequent episodes.
  • Despite her promise that she will help Darien find a cure, Casey is never seen again.

Quotes

  • Darien: A schmuck called Nietzche once wrote 'anything done out of love is beyond good and evil.' Now, here's the thing: I love my job. So what does that make me?
  • Burgled and Molested Elderly Man: He was trying to have his way with me! I can still feel his hands groping me, the bastard! That son of a bitch robbed me of my manhood. What am I gonna to tell my grandkids?
  • Darien: Let me tell you something about justice in retirement communities. You even sneeze at an old person, you're not going to be making bail. So given my crime, and that this was my third strike, you can guess the outcome.
Judge: Death by lethal injection. [pause] ...sadly not being an option, it is the decision of this court that you, Darien Fawkes, be remanded to the maximum security penitentiary at Bakersfield, there to serve out the remainder of your life, without hope of parole.
