The Lion Guard is a children's animated series based on the 1994 Disney movie The Lion King. It is the second TV series based on the movie: the first being Timon and Pumbaa. It's a sequel to The Lion King taking place during the time-gap within 1998's The Lion King II: Simba's Pride.
The Lion Guard follows Kion, the son and second born cub of Lion King star Simba, as he assembles together a group of animals to help protect the jungle called The Lion Guard.
The pilot movie, titled Return of the Roar, premiered on November 22, 2015, with the series officially premiering on January 15, 2016, a premiere method similar to how Sofia the First premiered.
