Basic Information
Ben Quick returned to Frenchman's Bend after 13 years away. Will Varner has 'destroyed' his father and Ben came back to take over and work the family farm. He also planned to take up the fight to challenge Varner's dominance. He went after Varner's daughter Clara, originally to annoy and goad her father, but became genuinely attracted to her. The feelings between the two of them became warmer as the series progressed.

- As the series progressed the Ben Quick character became central to the show replacing that of Will Varner in this regard. Roy Thinnes, who played Ben Quick, received around 1500 letters a week from lovelorn women.
- When casting for the Ben Quick character, the final choice was between Roy Thinnes and Gary Conway.
