Plot Overview
Familiar faces show up for a final farewell to Caleb. Meanwhile, Sandy takes action to help Kirsten. And when Ryan learns about the Trey-Marissa incident, a showdown -- if not a tragedy -- is inevitable.
Hailey and Jimmy return to Newport for Cal's funeral. Kirsten makes a drunken scene after the funeral and Sandy enlists Hailey's help in getting Kirsten into rehab. Seth discovers a brochure for the rehab facility where Sandy plans to send Kirsten, and tells his father he won't be a part of the intervention. When confronted by Sandy, Hailey, Ryan and a doctor from the Suriak facility, Kirsten is defensive and angry at her family for wanting to send her away. But she changes her mind when Seth appears in the doorway and pleads with her to get help. Later, a fragile Kirsten arrives at Suriak to begin her rehabilitation.
Jess enlists Trey to help her with a drug deal, which goes bad when the buyers refuse to pay. Shots are fired in the Bait Shop, and Ryan decides it's time for Trey to leave Newport. Summer tells Seth what happened between Marissa and Trey, and as usual Seth can't keep it to himself. He tells Ryan, who runs off to find his brother. At the Cooper-Nichol house, Jimmy and Julie tell Marissa they want to be a family again. Seth interrupts their dinner with a call to Marissa, warning her of what Ryan might do. Meanwhile, Ryan confronts Trey , who pulls a gun on him. Ryan is about to leave when he suddenly makes a run at Trey and the two begin to fight. Marissa arrives and begs Trey to stop; when he doesn't, she picks up the gun and shoots Trey in the back as he is about to smash a phone over Ryan's head. Seth and Summer arrive at Trey's apartment just seconds after the shooting.
