Trivia
The Show
- This episode marks the de facto series finale of The Rifleman, though it was not intended as such; according to official press releases, series stars Chuck Connors and Johnny Crawford sought to move on in their acting careers, but according to Patricia Blair (who appeared in a regular role as Lou Mallory in the final season), plans were made by ABC for a sixth season of the show, which would be expanded to one hour per episode, would be the first season of the show to be filmed and broadcast in color and which all of the show's regulars had signed on to, but Connors later bowed out at the suggestion of his new wife Kamala Devi and took a new role on the police procedural/courtroom series Arrest and Trial, resulting in the planned sixth season of The Rifleman being scrapped[1]
Behind the Scenes
- This was the final acting credit of child actress Karen Sue Trent (who was best known for playing Penny Woods in later seasons of Leave It to Beaver), who retired from acting following her appearance in this episode due to becoming disillusioned with acting after suffering an unspecified injury during the filming of the quicksand scene in the episode
