Plot Overview
While freeing a calf stuck in the underbrush, Mark McCain comes across the body of a stranger. Lucas investigates and find no identification on the dead man but when he checks with Marshal Micah Torrance in North Fork, it appears that he may have been in town the day before. Back at the McCain ranch, Lucas' distant cousin Artemus Quarles is visiting. He's something of a jack of all trades and regales Mark with stories of his years at sea. As Lucas and Micah look for possible suspects, the evidence seems to point to Artemus.
