Plot Overview

A young orphan boy named Grid, about the same age as Mark, shows up in North Fork and challenges Lucas to a duel. Lucas doesn't know why Grid, whose arrogance and bravado belie his youth, wants to fight and refuses to fight the boy, until he has no choice when Grid threatens to go after Mark and actually attempts to force the younger McCain into a duel back at the McCain ranch. After Grid is captured by Lucas and Mark, Lucas heads back to town with the boy, who dismissively claims, despite his intentions otherwise, that he "wasn't going to shoot" Mark in an attempt to minimize his actions. Lucas soon learns that Grid has come after him because he shot and killed the boy's father several years earlier, forcing him to tell the boy that his father was an outlaw in the middle of committing a bank robbery when he came upon Lucas and attempted to shoot at him, forcing the latter to fire back. Lucas has Micah hold Grid in one of the jail cells at his office and wants to file charges against the boy for threatening Mark, but Grid refuses to let the arrest deter him and he continues to threaten Lucas. When Lou visits Micah's office and hears about Grid, she wants him released into her custody so she can straighten him out back at her hotel - which she does when Grid refuses to take a bath as ordered and attempts to escape from the hotel dining room, forcing Lou to get physical against him. When Lucas and Micah pop into the dining room to see what is happening, Grid finally wises up and does as Lou tells him.
