Basic Information
Vincent Van Ghoul was a supernatural mentor seen in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (ABC, 1985-86) who took it upon himself to assist Scooby-Doo and his pals--Shaggy, Daphne, Scrappy-Doo, and young con-artist Flim Flam--in retrieving thirteen ghosts from a mysterious chest. Van Ghoul could use his supernatural powers to capture the ghosts himself, but since Scooby and Shaggy were the ones who opened the chest (they were tricked by two non-entity ghosts trying to build up their own stature before their spiritual brethren), they and their friends are the ones who had to capture the ghosts themselves. Van Ghoul was always nearby, either in person or by crystal ball, to offer advice. Each of the series' 13 episodes had a different ghost to track down.

Trivia
Vincent Van Ghoul was a caricature of horror actor Vincent Price, who voiced the character himself. Price relished the role and the thought of a new generation of kids hearing him. Unfortunately, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo ran only six months on ABC's Saturday morning line-up.
