  • Deep Space Homer: The chart showing the hierarchy of the plant's ownership places Homer beneath the inanimate carbon rod which was given a "Worker of the Week Award."

Trivia

The Show

  • Self-Reference: At the end of the episode at the ballpark, a banner reads something akin to "Homer's 305th Everything is Back to Normal BBQ." This is accurate, as this was the 306th episode of the series and it naturally wouldn't count the first episode.

Behind the Scenes

Allusions and References

  • The Cask of Amontillado: The Cask of Amontillado is a short story written by Edgar Allen Poe about revenge and murder. The story is set during the 18th century in Italy where a man named Montresor bears a grudge against his friend Fortunato. Montresor tricks his friend into coming down to the crypt with him to see if his new rare wine is authentic. After making it to the end of the crypt, Montresor chains Fortunato to a wall and bricks him in, burying him alive. Burns attempts this same plot at the end of the episode to less effective results.
Burns: Oh keep begging! You're just wasting precious oxygen. Brick by brick, I seal his doom.
