  • The House of Sand and Fog: The title of the episode refers to the 2003 film by Vadim Perelman starring Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly about a woman who is evicted from her home and battles with a family who buys the house in an auction.
  • The O.C.: The parody series which Lisa wants to watch is loosely based around the FOX teen drama The O.C.. The series centers around four teenagers in Orange County, California, but extends the drama into the lives of their parents and the more adult world around them.
