Plot Overview

Homer is eager to try a new hair growth formula guranteed to produce a full head of hair. After figuring out a way for his insurance company to cover the cost, Homer gets the formula and it actually works. The new hair changes Homer's life as Marge is more attracted to him and he is noticed at work, which leads to a major promotion. Part of his promotion includes a personal assistant named Karl who is devoted to making sure Homer succeeds at every turn.

When Bart finds the hair growth formula all is lost when he spills it trying to grow himself a goatee. Homer's hair soon starts to fall out again and Karl gives him the confidence he needs to go on. Of course, it doesn't stop Mr. Burns from taking away Homer's promotion and soon everything is back to normal.

Behind the Scenes

Allusions and References

  • It's a Wonderful Life: Homer running through town excitedly yelling about growing hair on his head is akin to George Bailey running through Bedford Falls (after realizing what he has in his friends and family) in the classic 1946 Christmas movie.
  • Samson and Delilah: The biblical story of Samson as told in Judges 13-16 (a Israelite judge whose hair gives him superhuman powers, then losing it when his hair was cut in an act of betrayal by his lover, Delilah) forms the basis of this episode's plot.

Memorable Moments

  • This episode is notable as it is the first time two non-related male characters kissed on network television.
