• Three Men and a Baby: The episode title is a pun on the book series by Jerome K. Jerome, and the 1987 movie about three friends who are left to raise a baby girl.
• Treasure of the Sierra Madre: The episode's main plot – people fighting over a valuable item to the point of paranoia – is taken from the novel by B. Traven.
• The Wonder Years: An adult Bart reminisces about his experiences as a 10-year-old with buying the rare first-edition debut issue of the Radioactive Man comic book, akin to an adult Kevin Arnold looking back 20 years earlier at his youth on the original 1988-1993 ABC dramaedy about a boy coming of age in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
