I was autogenning Spooks when I noticed on Talk:Spooks that there was a mini-discussion over default date formats.
- Do we want a standard date format?
- If so, which?
- MonthName Day, Year -- This is what the autobot has been doing, as it's the format used on Buffy
- Day MonthName Year
- Gregorian or Babylonian
- other suggestions? commas, dashes, fullstops ordering. etc etc. etc.

- The format I've been advocating is "dd mmm yyyy" (i.e. 17 Sep 2005) because that's what MediaWiki uses. Let's gather opinions here for a week, then we'll have a week-long vote. --CygnusTM 10:12, 17 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- I don't agree that the date should be shortened to Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, etc..., as we are bound to have more than just people from English speaking backgrounds visit the site. I think in any case the dates should have the full month displayed. 'January, February, March, etc..'. -- Praetorian 10:35, 17 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- I don't have an opinion on it - most date formats are super easy to read, except when USAians put the month number before the day number. The autobot changes to fix any date format are trivial. Fixing all previous dates from one format to another will be a nightmare (which will be somebody else's).--Coolbutuseless 10:24, 17 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- I like YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. 2005-09-14) or the current DD MMMM YYYY (e.g. 14 September, 2005). I don't think we really need to shrink the month names. All formats of DD-MM-YYYY or MM-DD-YYYY should be avoided as everyone does them differently. -- Boneill 05:32, 19 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- I've always learned to do it with MMMM DD, YYYY (e.g. September 19, 2005) and have been doing my pages as such. Shortening it seems kind of useless and the way I do it makes it easier to read, in my opinion. --14:49, 19 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- I think we should just stick with MMMM DD, YYYY since it's already on a lot of pages and I think it personally looks fine. I don't really mind, though, if it's not too big of an edit job, as DD MMMM YYYY looks really well. As long as the month is typed out in actual letters and not numbers as to not confuse anyone. --Wizardryo 22:59, 19 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- Yup, I vote MMMM DD, YYYY because that's how I did it, it's easiest to read, and I wrote 25,000 lines of C++ code to pull dates off of [epguides.com] episode pages and translate DD MM YY into MMMM DD, YYYY from 1980 until 2006. And also, who wrote the eptable templates?? They are awesome, but I wish I had known about them before I wrote my program! --Randall 12:51, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)
- I forgot to start the voting period. Starting now. --CygnusTM 07:59, 27 Sep 2005 (EDT)
