Plot Overview

Dr. Venture is offered a job by theme park owner and cartoon magnate, Roy Brisby, who won't take no for an answer in his quest for worldwide entertainment dominance. Meanwhile, the boys are given the Patty Hearst treatment by the Orange County Liberation Front, a group of militant suburbanites who want to take down Brisby's empire. Brock enlists the aid of former lover and fellow superspy Molotov Cocktease to "mount" a rescue, but she may have her own agenda.

Notes

  • Unlike the rest of the series, this episode is rated TV-MA for strong sexual overtones.

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Dr. Venture is hired by Roy Brisby for the cloning technology that Dr. Jonas Venture may have developed years ago. Dr. Venture refuses, and is drugged and interrogated by Brisby. They don't get anything useful out of him.
  • Hank and Dean are kidnapped by the Orange County Liberation Front and brainwashed. They break out of the spell when Brock threatens them.
  • Brock meets his old love, Molotov Cocktease. She helps him break into the Brisbydome, then splits off to complete her own mission. She steals Roy Brisby's panda to return it to its original owner, David Bowie.

Characters

  • We find out that Dr. Venture isn't a real doctor. He never even finished college.
  • Molotov Cocktease is Brock's true love. They've encountered each other before, and tried to kill each other multiple times. Unfortunately for Brock, he can never have sex with Molotov because of a chastity belt she wears.

Referbacks

  • Hank and Dean are big Bizzy Bee fans. We previously saw that they had a Bizzy Bee coin purse in the pilot.

Trivia

The Show

  • In an early draft of this episode, Brisby was planning to launch a massive new satellite network to take over the world's television entertainment. His plan was to have been thwarted by either the boys or Dr. Venture, who find, in the Brisby vaults, his original Bizzy Bee cartoons from the 1920's, which were, as Disney's early Mickey shorts were, utterly racist in nature. They then play the cartoon on the new network's inaugural broadcast, which sends the world into revolt against Brisby's empire and pisses Mandelay off enough to go after his boss.

References

  • Brisby and Brisbyland: Roy Brisby is an obvious parody of Walt Disney. Brisby's interest in being cloned is not unlike a common rumor about Walt Disney that claims that he was frozen after his death (presumably to be revived at some later point). Brisbyland includes a castle and the "Brisbydome", a giant beehive parodying Spaceship Earth at Epcot Center. Like Disneyland, Brisbyland is located in Orange County, California. The leader of the Orange Country Liberation Front mentions that Brisby has spread to Florida (where Walt Disney World is located), "Euro Brisbyland" in France (Euro Disney) and Times Square in New York City (former location of a Disney store and currently home to the New Amsterdam theatre, where the stage play of The Lion King is performed).
  • Molotov Cocktease: Molotov Cocktease is named for the Molotov cocktail, a guerilla tactic where a rag is partially stuffed inside a glass bottle filled with a flammable liquid, then the part of the rag that sticks out of the bottle is lit, and the bottle is thrown at a target. The bottle breaks, coating the target in the liquid and setting it ablaze. The "cocktease" part comes from the fact that she will never, ever sleep with any man but has no problem getting them hot and bothered (like she did to Brock in this episode).
  • Applebee's: The leader of the Orange County Liberation Front mentions that he met Debbie (his significant other) at an Applebee's that was torn down to build Brisbyland. Applebee's is a chain of family-friendly restaurants decorated with various hodge-podge.
