Dana Scully is a main character in The X-Files. She is played by Gillian Anderson

Basic Information

Dana Scully studied Physics and became a medical doctor before joining the FBI. She taught at the Quantico Academy for 2 years before Section Chief Scott Blevins assigned her to the X-Files.

In 1994 Scully was abducted by Duane Barry, a former FBI agent, who took her to Skyland Mountain in an attempt to have aliens abduct her in his place. She was missing for a month before she turned up near death in a hospital. No records or witnesses of her admission were found. After her recovery she had no memory of what had happened to her during her disappearance. She later met a group of women who claimed to have seen her during her abduction and discovered a microcip had been placed in the back of her neck. After removing the chip Scully developed cancer which became terminal. She was cured after Mulder retrieved a chip from the Department of Defense and had this inserted into the back of her neck. As a result of her abduction Scully became infertile and discovered a little girl who had been created using her stolen ova. The girl died shortly after as a result of the experimentation carried out on her. Scully found out she was pregnant in the episode Requiem and Mulder is presumably the father. After giving birth to a baby who she named William, Scully was forced to give him up for adoption as she could not keep him safe. Baby William had an immunity to the alien virus that was being developed by the consortium and also exhibited special powers such as telekinesis.

Scully's father William was a former Naval Captain. He died from a heart attack in 1993. She called her father Ahab after the character in Moby Dick and he nicknamed her Starbuck. For a brief time Scully had a dog she had named Queequeg after another character in the book but the dog was eaten by a crocodile. Scully has two brothers, Bill and Charlie, and a sister Melissa who was murdered after being mistaken for Dana. Her mother is Maggie Scully.

Scully is Catholic and always wears a gold cross around her neck.
