Plot Overview
The Torchwood team, carrying on as best they can in Jack's absence, track down an alien blowfish, who uses his knowledge of their insecurities to stall them while he takes a hostage. Jack arrives just in time to save the day, but his desire to pick up where he left off without any explanation causes tensions in the team. Those tensions escalate as he runs off alone to meet Captain John Hart, his former partner (and lover) from the Time Agency.
John claims to have arrived in town to recover powerful fusion bombs which have been scattered across Cardiff through the Rift, but when the team split up to find them, he incapacitates them and kills Jack to keep the "bombs" to himself. He believes they contain the secret to finding a huge diamond, which was owned by a woman he recently killed; in reality they are a booby trap meant to avenge her death, and a sophisticated bomb implants itself in John's chest. The device's explosion would, however, cause many other deaths - including Gwen's as John handcuffs himself to her. The team are forced to save John, but then tell him to go. As he re-enters the Rift, he informs Jack that he has found Jack's brother.
