Video Village was a game show airing first in primetime on CBS then in daytime.
Self-described as a board game brought to TV, two contestants represented the "game pieces" on a board of spaces consisting of three "streets": Money Street, Bridge Street and The Magic Mile. Two giant dice are rolled (by a contestant's second) to determine to where each contestant progressed. Each space requires the contestant to either answer a question or perform a stunt. Some spaces are penalties, such as "Lose a Turn" and "Go to Jail."
The first contestant to run all three streets wins the game and faces the Town Council, who asks light-hearted questions and awards the contestant a cash prize if they like his/her answer.
A Saturday morning edition, Video Village Jr. premiered on CBS a year later. It would be revived on ABC in 1964 under the new name Shenanigans. The show was first created for local New York television under the name Shenanigans before going national and being renamed.
