WABM is the MyNetworkTV affiliate for Birmingham, Alabama, broadcasting on digital channel 20, displayed on tuners as virtual 68.
WABM first signed on in 1986 as WCAJ, a religious station. It took on more mainstream programming after WDBB/ch 17 in Tuscaloosa and WTTO/ch. 21 in Birmingham took on Fox affiliation. The call changed to WABM in 1990. It became a UPN affiliate in 1995, switching to My Network TV in 2006 after the WB and UPN folded and merged to become the CW (affiliated with WTTO and WDBB).
To appease an FCC ruling, Sinclair is selling off three of its television stations. A side effect to this is that WABM took on ABC affiliation on its subchannel, thus giving ABC a full-power outlet in Birmingham again first the first time since it left WBRC/channel 6. Current main ABC outlet WBMA-LD is being retransmitted on the subcarriers of WDBB (17.2), WGWW (40.2) in Anniston and WABM (68.2).
