Plot Overview

Trivette is placed on paid administrative leave after a shootout between armed robbers in a residential neighborhood results in the accidental shooting of a 6-year-old boy, who was caught in the crossfire. The lead investigator has a bitter grudge against Trivette because he was passed over (in favor of Trivette) in being initiated by the Rangers, and is determined to prove that carelessness resulted in the boy being shot, and it is up to Walker to prove that all was not as he sees it. Meanwhile, Trivette is tormented with the moral implications, including being hounded by an overzealous television reporter looking to sensationalize the incident and the boy's older brother looking to exact revenge, and turns to self-destructive behavior to cope, while Alex comforts the family of the kid and gives them their support.

Eventually, Walker finds evidence and is able to prove to the lead investigator that one of the robbers fired the bullet that wounded the boy, and thus exonerate Trivette.
