Plot Overview

Mystique breaks out Wanda from a mental institution and returns to the Brotherhood to join their ranks. However, Wanda is having trouble adjusting, largely due to her issues with her father (Magneto)and brother (Quicksilver). Mystique sets up a fight between the Brotherhood and the X-Men at the mall to test their newest member and Wanda manages to defeat the X-Men single-handedly.

  • This is the first appearance of both the Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness.

  • In this episode, it is the first time it is actually mentioned in the series that Magneto is Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch's father.

Characters

  • This is the last episode where we see the real Professor Xavier for the remainder of the season. During this episode, Mystique took his form and masqueraded as him while still managing the Brotherhood.

  • This is one of my all-time favorite episodes of this series and that is due to the fact that the X-Men finally lose a fight and by the hands of the Scarlet Witch alone, no less. It was good for plot development and deflated their egos, particularly because it needed to be done, especially when you consider how cocky they were prior to the fight.
