Overview
A couple, Arnie and Debbie, are in the process of moving into a rental home. While moving their things, Debbie's brother is frightened by something he saw in the home. The brother, David, claims to have saw an old man. Later, David tells his own mother and correctly predicts that scratches will be found on the door. Arnie and Debbie decide not to move into the rental home, but Arnie's mother does anyways. From there, David starts being attacked by the demonic spirits.
Arnie and Debbie go to a priest who come and bless the house. However, the attacks do not stop and demonologists, Ed and Loraine Warren are called. They suggest that David is being possessed. They say they will attempt an exorcism, but getting it approved takes time; instead they opt for a more speedy minor exorcism. In the mean time, Arnie and Debbie go to the rental home to implore Arnie's mother to leave, but find that she is already gone. Arnie checks a well that David says the demons come from and is possessed temporarily himself.
A few days later, David attacks Arnie with a knife. With events getting out of hand, the exorcism goes forward. During the exorcism a priest attempts to draw the demons out of David's body, while he struggles to break free. At one point David nearly dies while the first demon is withdrawn. After a while they all are and the family and friends are not bothered by them any more.
