Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is an animated children's comedy program. It was based on the Jim Carrey-starring film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Ace Ventura and his simian sidekick Spike travel hither and yon to rescue distressed animals in the most unconventional ways. Ace may seem a bit addled and demented, but he'll usually come up with a plan to set things right, and still have time to throw his voice to his butt cheeks.

In 1997, Ace Ventura and The Mask (another cartoon spun off from a Jim Carrey vehicle, which in turn began as a comic) had crossover stories. It began on The Mask as Ace is called after evil scientist Pretorius dognapped Stanley Ipkiss' pet Jack Russell terrier Milo. In the Ace Ventura episode that immediately followed, The Mask joins Ace to locate a missing space hamster.

Third season episodes aired exclusively on Nickelodeon as CBS had jettisoned all their cartoon fare in the fall of 1997 in favor of live-action children's shows and a Saturday edition of their weekday morning news.
