- Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. "Look, up in the sky!" "It's a bird!" "It's a plane!" "It's Superman!" Yes it's Superman, strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Superman, who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel with his bare hands, and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way.
Adventures of Superman is a superhero drama that aired in first-run syndication. George Reeves starred as Superman, the last son of Krypton. Phyllis Coates played Lois Lane for the first season, but was replaced by Noel Neill for the rest of the run. In the third season the series switched from black and white to color, and was one of the first shows to make the switch. Because of the expense of producing television shows in color at the time, however, the number of episodes in each season from Season Three onward was subsequently cut from 26 to 13 to ease the impact on the show's production budget.
Motion Pictures for Television originally syndicated Adventures of Superman. Warner Bros. Television, which assumed distribution of the show in 1972, has continued syndicating the show to the present due to sister company DC Comics' ownership of the Superman franchise.
