The New Adventures of Superman is an animated superhero show that aired on CBS. Each episode consisted of a segment of The Adventures of Superboy bookended by two segments of Superman.
The series, the first by the Filmation studio, was basically a low-budget edition of the lavish Superman cartoons made by Max and Dave Fleischer for theaters in the early 1940s. It reunited the voices of Bud Collyer and Joan Alexander, both of whom lent their voices to the Fleischer films. In subsequent seasons on CBS, the Superman cartoons would be paired up with Aquaman in 1967 for an hour-long show, with Batman in 1968, and then re-appear as The New Adventures of Superman in the 1969-70 season.
Lou Schiemer recounted how DC Comics were looking for a studio to make a Superman cartoon series. The studio had their equipment but no staff yet when DC executives toured it. They were impressed enough to give them the green light on the series. Lou Schiemer and Norm Prescott started recruiting experienced artists while training new artists.
