Plot Overview

Unable to dissuade Bill from leaving, Liz felt the wheels turning in her mind when Lenore showed up for an early morning visit. Buckley tried to convince a doubtful Crawford that everything physical and psychological pointed to Missy's guilt, but Buckley also speculated that Bill would have been happy to have Danny bumped off. A flustered Bill looked a little sick when Lenore cooed about learning how to make breakfast for him. Liz ran out of the kichen after them as Bill tried to hustle Lenore out the door and into his car, then wailed in anguish as Bill said he was going to tell her it was over. Dru and John fumed over a busy signal, as Liz phoned Fred to ask him to come over immediately. John hung up when Liz loosened a flood of bile into his ear. In his parked car, Bill got up the courage to let Lenore know he couldn't marry her. An anguished Bill felt awful when a stoic Lenore thought Bill a fool to believe Missy's lies. A realist, Lenore gave him back his engagement ring though she felt her love for him like a terrible ache. The police speculated that if Liz handpicked Lenore as Missy's replacement, Lenore might have some information for them.

Quotes

  • Bill: Lenore, I hate to say this. I wish I could find a better way of saying it. And I won't blame you for anything you think of me from now on... but Lenore, I'm not going to marry you.

(Lenore is shocked, number for the moment; scene fads to black)

  • Announcer: We'll return to our story in just a moment.

  • Bill: We're not going to be married, Lenore.
  • Lenore: Well. That is a piece of news for a girl on a bright morning before breakfast.
