Plot Overview
Bill jumped on Liz's case the minute she walked through the door. He groaned in despair as Liz described her plan to convince the Moores to pretend the engagement was still on, and he and John were appalled when she declared not caring about Missy's guilt or innocence. Walter speculated that both Liz and Missy were lying to protect Bill. Buckley was surprised when Walter considered it more likely that Missy was innocent and Bill the guilty party. Liz kissed Bill on the cheek and left after assuring everyone that she can tell Buckley something that will straighten everything out. John told Bill they needed to move Missy to Mary's house for propriety's sake. Dru made light of the meeting when he returned with Missy, but confided to John that Walter had some definite suspicions. Dru despaired of the fat in the fire upon learning of Liz's lies to the police. With wide-eyed candor, Liz told Buckley and Walter that Bill had left late last night to meet Missy on business, then smiled brightly as she reminded them of Bill and Lenore's engagement. Missy told Bill of her meeting with Walter, of whom she spoke favorably. Walter felt sure they now had a case against Bill or Missy, or both.
