Plot Overview

The reporters raised a hubbub as Dru brought Missy into the squad room. Jim returned home to find the entire Matthews larder spread about on the counters as Mary furiously cleaned the shelves. Mary told him of Missy's arrest, her eyes really brimming when she imparted Liz's urge that Missy get what she deserves. A brusque Buckley, by no means a sadistic inquisitor, took down Missy's particulars: 22 last month, 5'2, 103 lbs., dark brown hair and brown eyes. Feeney, the police property clerk, bagged her belongings so quickly Missy felt like she was caught in a maelstrom of impersonal, deadly procedure. Fingerprint technician Parker chatted with Buckley as he took Missy's prints. She was shepherded next to the photographer, who shoved a plaque in front of her with her name and the date. Buckley explained to her she might very well have to stay over in jail. In the bare, bleak interrogation room, Missy was distracted by the ink stains she couldn't manage to rub off her fingers. Ms. Klein transcribed on a stenotype machine as Walter explained the nature of the charges. Dru realized Walter had obtained Missy's prints off the water glass that morning when Walter stated she'd held the gun in a firing position. Walter made an unbelieving epithet out of Sam's name. Sam angrily knocked the paper out of Ada's hand when she expressed phoney solicitude over his "grief." Ada remembered that it was Liz's son Bill who had been engaged to Missy last year. After Missy volunteered that she didn't kill Danny, Walter informed her that she would be held in custody to be bound over to Magistrate's Court for formal arraignment.
