Plot Overview
The morning after their incident with the hollow nearly killing everyone in Ichigo's home, Ichigo's father claims that a truck rammed into their home, although Ichigo knows what really happened. After inspecting the damage, Ichigo makes his way to school where he discovers that the soul reaper, Rukia Kuchiki, hasn't gone back to Soul Society after all but is now one of his new classmates.
Rukia admits that she cannot return to Soul Society due to the fact that Ichigo has absorbed nearly all of her powers and that now she is forced to reside in a temporary body so that she can recover. She also informs him that because he has all of her powers, he has no choice but to aid her as a reaper. When he refuses, she forcefully ejects Ichigo's soul from his body and takes him to a spirit being chased by a hollow but demands that he not intervene. Naturally, Ichigo doesn't listen and destroys the hollow.
Later, Ichigo and Rukia run into Inoue, who appears to have been hit by a car. The two rush to her aid, but she doesn't admit to any harm. When Rukia points out a strange striped bruise in her leg, she runs off without explaining what happened. The two go their separate ways, but meet again when Ichigo realizes that Rukia is living in his closet. She makes her appearance known when another hollow appears that turns out to be Inoue's brother.
