Plot Overview
Aizen, Ichimaru and Tousen have all been determined as a grave threat to both the soul society and the regular living world, despite the fact that their weapon will not mature for quite a while. During the briefing, the general forms a search party to figure out where exactly they've disappeared to, lest the three wreck havoc without being stopped.
In the world of the living, gates which looked suspiciously like the gates of hell that have taken away corrupt souls in the past have taken Orihime. Worse yet, a memories of Orihime have disappeared from the minds of Ichigo's classmates. Knowing this, Ichigo determines that someone deliberately planned to capture Orihime. Ichigo, Chad and Uryu skip the rest of their classes to further investigate Orihime's home and discover the cup she left out for the spirit of her brother. While in her home, Renji gets a call on his spirit communicator from the person who orchestrated Orihime's disappearance. The girl on the other side of the line suggests that they play a game to get Orihime back, which Ichigo can't possibly refuse.
The four race to a nearby park where they find a ringing pay phone. The girl on the phone congratulates them for completing the first challenge and tells them to race to the supermarket in three minutes. But, because someone else answers the phone, they lose the challenge. She mocks Ichigo for losing, saying that she'll just have to kill Orihime now, and hangs up. Minutes later, she calls again to say she was just kidding and bids them to run to the Urahara shop. Since they managed to finish that last challenge, the mysterious girl tells Ichigo to go to Orihime's house that night at 8, saying she might be there.
It's clearly a trap, but the four go anyway with Ichigo and Renji in soul-reaper garb. A bright light shines from an upstairs window and Chad threatens to break down the door, but he's interrupted by Orihime opening it herself. She shows signs of amnesia from the last day, but she appears to be unharmed. Elsewhere, Urahara has determined that the person who called can't be human, but the voice doesn't have a spirit print. His investigation is interrupted when Yoruichi spots a large funnel cloud heading towards Orihime's house.
When the cloud hits the house, Orihime's eyes glow red and she choke Chad into submission. The fake Orihime turns into a man identifying himself as Claude and his partner, Nova, opens the gate again to take Chad into their custody. Renji and Ichigo try to attack the two while they're on the gate, along with the girl who called, but their attacks fail and the three disappear.
