Plot Overview

Ichigo is still embroiled in a battle with Zaraki, who is growing tired of Ichigo's tactics, which mainly consist of running away. He tries to regroup his energy and sharpen his spiritual pressure, but when he feels his link to Chad cut, he has a difficult time believing something could actually hurt him. Chad flickers back to life while Nanao and her captain are about to walk to pay their respects to Aizen. Nanao asks if she may administer the killing blow, but Kyoraku instead decides to call squad 4 to heal him and hold him in prison.

Chad's brief flirtation with death was enough to bring Ichigo back around and sharpen his spiritual energy. Ichigo finally manages to cut Zaraki after standing his ground, but Zaraki isn't intimidated. In fact, he's happy to see that Ichigo is finally putting up a good fight. The fight continues for a while before Zaraki explains to Ichigo that his sword doesn't have a name and that what he sees is what he gets. Ichigo considers this to be a weakness, but using his unactivated sword, he breaks Zangetsu and stabs Ichigo in the chest.

At Captain Aizen's resting place, his death is confirmed by the captain of Squad 4 but nothing about his murder is explained to either of the captains who visit him. This leads Captain Tōsen to finally become embroiled in the battle, if only to focus everyone's attention back onto Aizen's murder, even though he detests fighting and prefers to abstain whenever possible.

Ichigo collapses after being stabbed by Zaraki, but his body won't allow him to move. As Zaraki is wandering away from his fallen foe, time stops and Ichigo meets Zangetsu once again.
