Plot Overview
Momo is still in prison for lashing out against Ichimaru upon discovering his body. Rangiku informs her on what's happening outside and gives her a bundle of papers addressed to her from Captain Aizen. The letter is a post-mortum apology to her about getting her involved in the events which he had become on-edge about. The letter also contains a record of what has been happening in the inner sanctum that led to his death, although they aren't explained just yet.
Having reached the top of the mountain on which the white tower sits, Ichigo, Ganju and Hanataro are hit by immense spiritual pressure. They run towards the tower in hopes of escaping from the source of the power, but only wind up running straight to Kenpachi Zaraki. Zaraki appears behind him and his intent to kill causes a wound to appear in Ichigo's shoulder. Zaraki challenges him to a fight to the death and allows Ganju and Hanataro to escape. He also allows Ichigo a free shot, but Kenpachi is a legendary figure in the soul reaper world. Hanataro claims that he's invincible. Hanataro tries to convince Ganju to go back and save him, but Ganju insists that they need to focus on saving Rukia because Ichigo is fully aware of Zaraki's powers.
Ichigo takes his first shot, but it doesn't harm Zaraki at all. In fact, it makes Ichigo's hand bleed. Zaraki explains that Ichigo is so weak in comparison to him that every attack he makes will be repelled by superior energy. He then draws his own sword and prepares to strike.
