Plot Overview

Now that Ichigo has finally formed his cannonball, they're ready to continue forward in their plan as soon as Ichigo wakes up. Yoruichi calls everyone out to the cannon (and curses Ichigo for crushing his tail) so that they can be shot into the city, including Ganju. When Ichigo protests, Ganju explains that his brother was once a soul reaper and was killed by one of his own kind, despite showing an amazing amount of promise in his abilities. This story, along with Ichigo showing such class in wanting to rescue Rukia in the first place, has led to his decision to accompany everyone into the city.

With their training complete, those who choose to break into the city are blown into the air by Kukaku. They go directly upwards and are given an initial push towards their destination, but Ganju must recite a chant that will control the axis and speed to get them safely into the city. Ganju gets midway into her verse when he stops and argues with Ichigo, whose spiritual energy is throwing the bubble's integrity askew.

They enter into the city limits, forcing the captains' meeting to be dismissed early without Ichimaru's punishment. Captain Aizen insinuates that Ichimaru is up to something and that he shouldn't be underestimated, but what exactly he means is not explained. All of the captains are told to heed the warning signal and witness the bubble crashing into the membrane. They make it through, but the cannonball was destroyed by the shield and the ensuing explosion sends everyone in opposite directions. Chad is sent off alone saving Uryu from certain doom, while Uryu and Orihime are split from Ichigo and Ganju.

As they separate, Kenpachi considers which one of the four is the strongest so that he can find and kill him.
