Plot Overview

Hanataro has lead Ganju and Ichigo into the sewer tunnels, which are a complex catacombs that run through out the entire city. He tells them that only a few people know the layout of the caverns and if they trust him, he can get them into the white tower. But, Ichigo isn't so certain that they can trust one of the enemy. Hanataro explains that Rukia treated him kindly when he was cleaning her cell at the barracks, and that she told him stories about Ichigo. She also talks, sadly, about how she warped Ichigo's destiny. That's enough to accept Hanataro's innocence and Ichigo takes off down the tunnel.

After being briefed by Yasochika Iemura, the lieutenants nervously chatter about what kind of person could single-handedly defeat an entire squad except for Renji, who quietly sneaks out of the room. He confronts Ichigo, Ganju and Hanataro by the stairs leading towards the repentance cell after they've exited the sewers closest to the mountain. Renji declares that he's going to kill him for stealing Rukia's powers, even though Ichigo considers it to be foolish to want to be so concerned about returning her powers when she's been sentenced to death. Ichigo pins Renji against a wall, but is hurled into a wall by Zabimaru's activated form and is told that his strength is five times what he faced in the human realm. He opens a nasty head wound, but Ichigo claims that his attack has done nothing to harm him.

While Ichigo and Renji fight, Chad races towards where he feels the pressure rising and Orihime and Uryu continue to hide from the soul reapers chasing them.
