Behind the Scenes

Allusions and References

  • Dawson's Creek: Dawson's Creek was a fairly popular series which was one of the programs which The WB used to get on its feet with. The teen drama starred rising stars like Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson in a suburban setting. Spike's reference is to the character Pacey chasing after Katie Holmes's character, Joey, despite her disinterest in him.
Spike: Oh, Pacey! You blind idiot. Can't you see she doesn't love you?
  • 1984: The dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell was written in 1949 about a future where the government is watching everything that its people does in hopes of creating a peaceful society through fear. Big Brother is the leader of Oceania and is at the forefront of the system's propaganda.
Buffy: It's so unfair. It's like Big Brother can spy on you all the time, and the second I have something to say, no one will listen.

Memorable Moments

  • Joyce growing ill and being forced to go to the hospital.
  • The doctor operating on Spike's brain, only pretending to take the chip out of his brain.

Quotes

  • Buffy: Spike, I just saw you taste your own nose blood. You know what? I'm too grossed out to hear anything you have to say. Go home.
Spike: It's blood! It's what I do!
  • Spike: Taking up smoking, are you?
Harmony: I am a villain, Spike. Hello.
  • Spike: Okay. Is it bigger than a bread box?
Harmony: No. Four left.
Spike: So it's smaller than a bread box.
Harmony: No. Only three.
Spike: Harmony, is it a sodding bread box?
Harmony: Yes! Oh my God! Someone's blondie bear is a 20 Question genius!
  • Buffy: I've got a proposition for you.
Spike: Funny. I've got a proposition for you. What about knocking? Seems only fair since we vamps can't enter your flat without an invite, you could at least - (seeing Buffy taking out some money) Say, look at those pretty pieces of paper.
