The WB was a national broadcast network in the USA. Originally begun as a joint venture between Warner Bros. Entertainment (hence the acronym) and Tribune Broadcasting, the network was founded as a reaction to the popularity of FOX and first-run syndication programming.

On January 24, 2006, Warner Bros. Entertainment announced plans to merge the network with UPN, owned by the CBS Corporation, in order to create The CW. Although the station bug was removed from affiliates on August 14, the network was formally closed on September 17 with a special "Night of Favorites and Farewells" five-hour block of pilot episodes from landmark WB series like Felicity and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

During its final season The WB reached an estimated 91.66% of all American homes. It was broadcast on 177 stations throughout the nation as well as many small local cable outlets through The WB 100+ Station Group.
