Special Features
- Designing Buffy: The "Designing Buffy" featurette is about production design on the series. Designer Carey Meyer speaks about the designs he made for the second season, particularly focusing on the factory, the library, Buffy's house, the Bronze and the cemetery. He points out the deliberate choice of avoiding Gothic architecture, which Joss Whedon feels is overblown in vampire stories. In the second half of the featurette, Meyer gives viewers a tour of Buffy's house (including everything that's on wheels and able to pull out) and Giles' apartment. Marti Noxon, Nicholas Brendon, Juliet Landau, Joss Whedon, David Greenwalt, Charisma Carpenter, Kristine Sutherland and John Ritter are all interviewed.
- A Buffy Bestiary: This half-hour featurette looks at every major monster to appear in the first two seasons of the show. The producers of the series, as well as a handful of cast and crew members, discuss the motivation and design choices behind the creation of the characters. The monsters who are profiled are (in order of appearance: Darla, The Master, The Anointed One, Spike, Drusilla, Inca Mummy Girl, Reptile Boy, Ethan Rayne, Worm Guy, Patrice the Assassin, Ted, Lyle & Tector Gorch, The Bezor, The Werewolf, Der Kinderstod, Amy the Witch, Fish Creatures and The Judge. Joss Whedon, Julie Benz, David Greenwalt, make-up artist John Vulich, Marti Noxon, James Marsters, Juliet Landau, Anthony Stewart Head, Kristine Sutherland, Danny Strong, Charisma Carpenter, Robin Sachs, Kelly Connell, John Ritter, make-up supervisor Todd McIntosh, Elizabeth Anne Allen (who spoils a character moment from a future season), Nicholas Brendon and Brian Thompson are the people who are interviewed about the various monsters.
- Beauty and the Beasts: The last featurette on the disc is a documentary about make-up design in the series. The first half of the documentary is about make-up supervisor Todd McIntosh's process for applying the vampire make-up and the beauty make-up which he was forced to learn for the show. The second half largely features make-up artist John Vulich and Optic Nerve, which creates the suits, masks and other monster designs. They explain and show how the prosthetics are created and applied, specifically focusing on the vampire make-up using Vulich as a model. David Greenwalt, Todd McIntosh, John Vulich, John Ritter, Joss Whedon, Kristine Sutherland, Nicholas Brendon, Charisma Carpenter, Julie Benz, Juliet Landau, James Marsters, Marti Noxon and Brian Thompson all appear in the featurette.
- Art Gallery: The art gallery is comprised of four different galleries: stills, set designs, monster sketches and set design blueprints.
