Plot Overview

At the annual dinner party for the House of Cards greeting card company, the presentation of the company's most popular cards suddenly turns less than cheerful when Valentine Holiday, the president of the company, falls out of one of the displays dead, an arrow in his heart. It wasn't the arrow that killed him, however, but arsenic. Burke and his men not only have to determine how the man came in contact with the arsenic, but just who in his close circle really had no love for him: his amorous teenage assistant, the conceited salesman who's taking over as president, a greeting card writer, or his long-time friends, a psychoanalyst and his beautiful wife, who used to date Holiday before marrying her current husband. All through the case, the killer is sending taunting greeting cards to Amos.
