Behind the Scenes
Allusions and References
- Rashōmon: The title of this episode and part of its narrative structure derives from the 1950 Japanese movie Rashōmon by Akira Kurosawa, which tells the central event through a number of widely differing eyewitness accounts, making it impossible to determine the truth of what happened.
- Wedding Crashers: Vince Vaughn starred in the movie Wedding Crashers as one of a pair of womanizers who gatecrash weddings to pick up women there.
- Greg: I'm with Vince Vaughn on this one.
- Abraham Lincoln: The sixteenth President of the United States was assassinated in 1865 as he attended a play with his wife.
- Catherine: So aside from the accident, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?
- Raymond Chandler: Greg's account is styled after the hard-boiled detective fiction popularized by crime writer Raymond Chandler.
- Sara: Alright, Raymond Chandler, we get it.
- Bonnie and Clyde: Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were a notorious criminal couple around the time of the Great Depression. Their story is mostly remembered from the romanticized movie Bonnie and Clyde (1957).
- Mikey: Next thing I know she wants to be the Bonnie to my Clyde.
Memorable Moments
Quotes
- Sara: Our tradition. Like becoming property exchange between your father and your husband.
Nick: Aww, that's not what a wedding is. It's a public declaration of love.
Greg: I'm with Vince Vaughn on this one. Dozens of horny single women with access to an open bar and coupling on their mind.
Waitress: Weddings are a Rorschach. Everybody sees what they want to see. My first five were good.
