Season Three of Chuck premiered on January 10, 2010. Following a grassroots fan campaign to "save" the series from cancellation, NBC ordered 13 episodes for the season, with a sponsorship deal contributing to the budget to prevent significant cuts. After a dismal start to the fall season, however, the run was extended to 19 episodes and the season premiere was bumped up from March to January 2010. That led to the show being preempted in February for coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
